Norman and Emma are sure: «The concept "correction" causes perception society of disabled people as "inadequate" people».
TEXT:
- On all extent of history
- people with physical and intellectual defects
- parents threw after the birth,
- they were rejected by society,
- to them it was assigned a part court clowns,
- them heated or burnt on fires at the time of Inquisition,
- exhausted in gas chambers in nazi Germany,
- and in the XXI century they continue to be derelicts of society for whom separate institutes are allocated,
- they are exposed to tortures under the aegis of care of moral welfare of society,
- them offend, at them scoff, sneer, subject euthanasias.
- Today, for the first time for all history of mankind, people with physical and intellectual defects try to take a worthy place in society.
- The main danger consists that we, most likely, will participate in this process by increase in regenerative establishments and growing goodwill in relation to them, instead of equality and respect of their rights.
- Thus, we offer you
- THE NEW
- Vital credo of disabled people.
- It is not necessary to regard restriction of my possibilities as any serious problem.
- Understand that my disability is my distinctive feature.
- Do not consider my disability as a shortcoming.
- After all in your representation I "inadequate", and you characterise me as helpless.
- Do not try to correct me, after all I am not broken.
- Support me. I can make a certain contribution to society another, only to me in the known way.
- It is not necessary to see in me the patient. I am the ordinary inhabitant of the big city.
- Treat me, as to the neighbour. Remember that anybody from us cannot be up to the end independent and completely self-sufficient.
- Do not try to correct my behaviour.
- Be patient on the relation to me and listen more. That can be regarded by you as the wrong behaviour, can be my attempt to adjust communication with the outside world, – in such a way which turns out only at me.
- Do not try to correct me. You have on it no right.
- Help me to learn that I want to learn.
- Do not hide the uncertainty behind a mask of professionalism.
- Become the interlocutor who is able to listen, instead of interferes with my fight against the outside world, trying to improve conditions of my life in all possible ways.
- It is not necessary to put experiments and to check scientific theories on me.
- Be at one with me. And if business reaches quarrel, let it becomes the starting mechanism for introspection.
- Do not supervise me. I am the free personality.
- That you regard as disobedience and manipulations, for my part can be in the only possible way to render though any influence on a current of own life.
- Do not learn me to be obedient, obedient and polite.
- I should feel that I have the rights to tell "no" if business concerns protection of my interests.
It is necessary
- not to be indulgent on the relation to me.
- Become my ally in fight against those who uses me as means for a profit and self-satisfaction.
- Do not try to become my friend. Who knows, can, I deserve the bigger.
- Try to recognise me. We can become friends.
- Do not help me. Even if it brings you content.
- Ask better, whether your help is necessary to me. Give the chance to me to describe the best way by means of which you can help me.
- It is not necessary to admire me. The desire to lead full life is not the basis for admiration.
- Respect me. The respect means equality.
- It is not necessary to say to me what to do, correct me endlessly and to direct me.
- Listen, support and understand me.
- Do not render on me influence.
- Work with me together.
